<br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />as stated in Section 30_28_111 and 31-23_301 of the Colorado <br />Revised Statutes. <br /> <br />1.1 purpose <br /> <br />Therefore. upon Official approval of this report by the <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board. the areas described as being <br />inundated by the IOO-year flood can be designated as <br />approximate flood hazard areas and their use regulated <br />accordingly by Costilla County. <br /> <br />This report was prepared to guide local officials in <br />planning the use and regulation Of the floodplain areas such <br />that flood hazards and future flood damagcs are minimized. It <br />includes information on historical floods, existing factors <br />Which influence the flood hazard. and the nature and extent of <br />probable future floods. <br /> <br />1.3 Ac~nowledqments <br /> <br />The report data consist of floodplain delineation maps <br />Showing the approximate IOO-year flood boundary. These maps. were based on <br />st~tistical an~lyse& of stream Qage records. ~elatively widely <br />~p~ccd finld-~urveied cr~ss sections, hand calculati~nb uf <br />flood depthS at those cross_sections, and a field ~eview of the <br />preliminary floodplain ~elineations. In Costilla Countv <br />portion::; Of the Rio Grande, Culebra Creek, and Rita seco were <br />studied.
