revlSl.ons were the result of :floodplain modifications along San
Miguel River including the construction of bridges, removal of
bridges and the placement of fi~l.

1.3 Coordination

Upon initiation of the original! study, a legal notice was placed in
the Telluride Times on July t5, 1976, to notify all interested
persons so they could submit aQY relevant facts and technical data
concerning local flood hazards.:

A search for basic data was !IIade at all levels of government.
Federal, state, and local agencies were contacted as to the
availability of any reports, st~dies, or investigations which might
contain information relative to! flooding problems in the community.
i

An initial community coordina~ion meeting was held on July 19,
1976. The meeting was attended by representati.ves of the Town of
Telluride and San Miguel County; FEMA; the State Coordination
Agency, the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB); and COM, the
study contractor. The purpose jof this meeting was to discuss the
nature and purpose of the study, the scope and limits of work, and
flood information currently ava~lable concerning the community.
i

During the course of the work i for the initial study by COM, the
results of hydrologic analyses were reviewed by the U.S. Army Lorps
of Engineers (COE), Sacramento District, the U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS), the U.S. Soil Conservation Service (SCS), and the CWCB.
The final consultation and coordination meetings were held on
Monday, August 15, 1977, at the San Miguel County Court House and
the Town Hall of Telluride. I~ attendance were representatives of
the communities, FEMA, the CWOB, and the study contractor. The
results of the original study w~re presented to and accepted by the
communities. j

2.0 AREA STUDIED

2.1 Scope of Study

This Flood Insurance Study cove~s the geographic area of San Miguel
County, Colorado. The area of jstudy is shown on the Vicinity Map
(Figure 1). I
\

The areas studied by detailed methods were selected wi th priori ty
given to all. known flood hazard areas and areas of proj8cted
development or proposed construction.

Areas studied by detailed meth04s are shown in Table 1.

2
