Lavelle Craig
Mayor, City of Canon City
P.O. Box 1460
Canon City, CO 81215-1460

Community: City of Cafton City, Colorado
Community No.: 080068
Panel Affected: 0001 D
Ef~ective. ~ate of J A N 1 8 2000
This RevIsion:

102-I-C

Dear Mayor Craig:

This responds to a request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revise the effective
Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report for your community in
accordance with Part 65 of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations. In a letter dated
May 6, 1998, Mr. Michael A. Bartusek, P.E., Project Manager, Associated Design Professionals, Inc.,
requested that FEMA revise the FIRM and FIS report to show the effects of construction along an unnamed
wash of a 37-acre-foot detention basin between South Street and Washington Street, a 42-inch
reinforced-concrete pipe culvert beneath South Street, and more detailed topographic information from
Central Avenue to Elizabeth Street.

All data required to complete our review of this request were submitted with letters from Mr. Michael L.
Graber, P.R, Dam Safety Engineer, Water Division 2, Office of the State Engineer, State of Colorado;
Mr. Douglas J. Trieste, P.H., Flow Technologies; and Mr. Bartusek.

We have completed our review of the submitted data and the flood data shown on the effective FIRM. We
have revised the FIRM to modify the floodplain boundary delineations of the flood having a I-percent
chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year (base flood) along an unnamed wash from Central
A venue to Elizabeth Street. As a result of the modifications, the width of the Special Flood Hazard Area
(SFHA) designated Zone A, the area that would be inundated by the base flood with no base flood
elevations determined, for the revised reach increased. The base flood is contained within the natural
channel. We did not revise the corporate boundary for the area located northwest of the intersection of
Phelps Avenue and Central Avenue shown on the FIRMs for both the City of Canon City and the
unincorporated areas of Fremont County. Please note that the FIRM for your community does not show
the SFHA for the aforementioned area associated with the North East Cafton Drainage Area (East Branch).
We recommend that your community use the Fremont County FIRM for floodplain management of the
aforementioned area. The modifications are shown on the enclosed annotated copy of FIRM
Panel(s) 0001 D. This Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) hereby revises the above-referenced panel(s) of
the effective FIRM dated November 3, 1982.

Because this revision request also affects the unincorporated areas of Fremont County, a separate LOMR
for that community was issued on the same date as this LOMR.

The modifications are effective as of the date shown above. The map panel(s) as listed above and as
modified by this letter will be used for all flood insurance policies and renewals issued for your community.
