Some of the alternatives to be considered
include channel cleaning, levee construction. roadway modifications, and
bridge modifications. By the implementation of the f'lood c:ontt'O'l project
recommended in the feasibility study, virt.lally all of the community will be
removed from the 500-year floodplain. which 'is similalr to the area affected
'1/
by the July 30, 1989 flood (Colorado ~Iater Conservation Board, 1990)--,
One alternative which will be studied i:,; shown on PLATE 1. It consists
of a levee system extending from CO RD 19 a'long the H'ighway 6 right of way
to the southeast corner of the town 1 imits ilnd thence east along the south
boundry of the town limits. Culverts would be provided in the levee where
the North Fork is crossed by Highway 6 and Burl ington Northern Railroad.
At this location, the upstream channe'l would be designed t.o convey
flows up to but exceeding the capacity of thE,' hi ghway and ra il mad ad dges,
respectively.
