PARK MANAGEMENT ISSUES

TRAILS: Trail use conflicts occur both on the park's roads and its trails, Solutions include zoning, education
of the user groups, trail improvements and road widening,

BOATING: There is a continued perception of overcrowding at Cherry Creek. Adjustments in boating
capacity and enforcemen~ increased boater awareness and focused education programs are recommendations
from the boating community,

CAPACITY: N, lines to use park facilities lengthen, efforts are being increased to encourage weekend
visitors to consider visiting during less busy times and using less crowded areas within the park,

NATURE AREAS: Due to the high demand for trail use, some previously undisturbed areas are now subject
to increased, and sometimes inappropriate, use, As a result, restriction on pets, horses and bicycles are being
placed on wetlands andlor other sensitive ecological areas,

PET EXERCISE AREA: The park is one of the few areas within the metropolitan area that allows pels under
control to be exercised off leash, Use of this area has increased substantially since 1992. Impacts of current
use are being monitored, canying capacities determined, and management presence improved.

TRANSPORATION: Development is severely stressing the transportation system found in the park's service
area, Commuters use the park heavily during peak traffic hours and the speed and volume of traffic has
increased dramatically over the past 10 years,

AIR SPACE: The air space above the park continues to become more crowded, causing aesthetic, resource
and visitor experience concerns. Centennial Airport is proposing to reroute jet traffic over the park in the near
future. The impacts to the park are unclear.

WILDLIFE: As development surrounds the area and habitat is lost, it is likely that native species diversity
will decline. Colorado State Parks is working closely with the Division of Wildlife to mitigate this potentiaL

FACILITIES AND ROADS: The backlog of facility and infrastructure maintenance has taken a huge toll on
the park, Significant investment will be needed to protect recreational opportunities and natural resources,

WATER OUALlTY: Park staff, the Cherry Creek Basin Water Quality Authority and the Colorado Water
Quality Control Commission continue to take innovative measures to protect the water quality,
