The flood elevation differences, FHFs, flood insurance zones,
and base flood elevations for each flooding source studied in
detail in the community are summarized in Table 3.

5.4 Flood Insurance Rate Map Description

The Flood Insurance Rate Map for Olathe is, for insurance purposes,
the principal result of the Flood Insurance Study. This map (pub-
lished separately) contains the official delineation of flood
insurance zones and base flood elevation lines. Base flood eleva-
tion lines show the locations of the expected whole-foot water-
surface elevations of the base (lOO-year) flood. This map is
developed in accordance with the latest flood insurance map prepara-
tion guidelines published by the Federal Emergency Management
Agency.

6.0 OTHER STUDIES

A Flood Hazard Boundary Map (Reference 11) was prepared for the Town
of Olathe in June 1974. The 100-year flood plain was delineated for
Uncompahgre River in the previous study by using approximate methods
of study. This study used more detailed methods in determining flood
plain elevations and delineations.

Flood-Prone Area Maps prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey
for Uncompahgre River are available for the Town of Olathe.
supersedes the previous determination.

(Reference 12)
This study

Flood Hazard Information reports (References 3 and 7) covering Uncompahgre
River at Olathe were completed in 1979 and 1980. All technical informa-
tion from the Flood Hazard Information reports was used in the preparation
of this study.

A Flood Insurance Study for Montrose County, COlorado, is being prepared.
All technical information for the Montrose County study is based on
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Flood Hazard Information reports and,
therefore, is in concurrence with the findings of this report.

This study is authoritative for the purposes of the National Flood Insur-
ance Program; data presented herein either supersede or are compatible
with all previous determinations.

7.0 LOCATION OF DATA

Survey, hydrologic, hydraulic, and other pertinent data used in this
study can be obtained by contacting the Natural and Technological Hazards
Division, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Building 710, Denver
Federal Center, Lakewood, Colorado 80225.

18
