<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br />TOWN OF PARACHUTE, GARFIELD COUNTY, COLORADO <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study investigates the existence and severity <br />of flood hazards in the Town of Parachute, Garfield County, <br />Colorado and aids 1n the administration of the National Flood <br />Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of <br />1973. This study has developed flood risk data for various areas <br />of the communi ty that will be used to establish actuarial flood <br />insurance rates and to assist the community in its efforts to <br />promote sound floodplain management. Minimum floodplain management <br />requirements for participation in the National Flood Insurance <br />Program (NFIP) are set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations at <br />44 CFR, 60. 3 . <br /> <br />1.2 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />The sources of authori ty <br />National Flood Insurance <br />Protection Act of 1973. <br /> <br />for this Flood <br />Act of 1968 <br /> <br />Insurance Study are the <br />and the Flood Disaster <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed <br />by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), Sacramento District, and <br />the U.S. Soil Conservation Service (SCS) for the Federal Emergency <br />Management Agency (FEMA). Additional data were provided by <br />consultants to the Town of Parachute, James E. Langford and <br />Associates. This work was completed in October 1989. <br /> <br />1.3 Coordination <br /> <br />On October 16, 1990, FEMA notified the Town of Parachute, Colorado <br />that an Existing Data Study was being prepared for the communi ty <br />using information prepared by J.E. Langford and Associates, Inc. <br /> <br />The cooperation and assistance of the Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board (CWCB), the SCS, and the Town of Parachute in preparing this <br />document is acknowledged. <br /> <br />The results of the study were reviewed at the final CCO meeting <br />held on December 5, 1990, and attended by representatives of FEMA, <br />the community, and the study contractor. All problems raised at <br />that meeting have been addressed in this study. <br />
