<br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />This technical addendum is prepared to provide the technical <br /> <br /> <br />aspects of hydrologic analysis for thE' flood insurance studies in <br /> <br /> <br />San Miquel County, Colorado. Study area, climatoloqy, flood <br /> <br /> <br />characteristics and flood history are briefly described" MethodologiE's <br /> <br /> <br />used for flood flow frequency and regional frequency analyses are <br /> <br /> <br />presenl:ed. Results are presented in t:abulated and qraphical forms" <br /> <br /> <br />All applicable data are also included. <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION OF STUDY AREA <br /> <br /> <br />The study areas, which include the Town of Telluride and the unin- <br /> <br /> <br />corporated areas of Placerville, Saw pit: and t:he vicinit:y of <br /> <br /> <br />Telluride are located in the southwest:ern part of Colorado's moun- <br /> <br /> <br />tain region in San Miguel County. The approximate limit:s of s,tudy <br /> <br /> <br />areas are shown in figures 1 and 2. 1'h" San Miguel River flows <br /> <br /> <br />from the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado in generally <br /> <br /> <br />northwesterly direction and joins the Dolores River at a,bou,t 4 <br /> <br /> <br />miles west of Uravan, Colorado. <br /> <br />The drainage areas of the San Miguel Riv'~r are approximately 42.4 <br /> <br /> <br />square miles near Telluride, 169 squaY'l" miles at Sa1fl Pit:, and 290 <br /> <br /> <br />square miles at Placerville. The Leopard Creek watershed, which <br /> <br /> <br />is a tributary to the San .Miguel River 0',[: Placerville, covers about <br /> <br /> <br />62 square miles. The Fall Creek watersLed, which is also a tribu- <br /> <br /> <br />tary to the San Miguel River near Saw Pit, approximal:es about 42 <br /> <br /> <br />square mi les. The Cornet Creek watershed, which joins t,he San <br /> <br /> <br />Miguel River at the southwestern part::>!' 'l'elluride, covers aboul: <br /> <br /> <br />2.3 square miles.
