.

HIDDEN LAKE MAJOR DRAINAGEWAY
PLANNING STUDY, PHASE A

;

SYNOPSIS
This report presents the results of the detailed hydrologic and hydraulic
study on the Hidden Lake Major Planning Basin, performed by Hydro-Triad, Ltd.
under contract with the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (U.D. & F.C.D.).
Sponsoring governmental agencies, in addition to the U.D. & F.C.D., are Adams
County and the City of Arvada.
The Hidden Lake Major Planning Basin is a north bank tributary to Clear
Creek with the main confluence located immediately upstream of the Federal
Blvd. bridge across Clear Creek. The Hidden Lake designation is derived
from the current name for the relatively large reservoir located north of 64th
Avenue and between Lowell Blvd. and Sheridan Blvd. This reservoir has also
been called Mayham Lake and Mud Lake by various entities. The total area
covered by this study comprises 4.92 square miles and is actually made up
of several separate basins, i.e. Hidden Lake Planning Basin, Bates Lake
Planning Basin and smaller sub-basins herein designated as Clear Creek
Planning Basins.
The storm water drainage problems in the basin are due primarily to
construction of various facilities, such as roads, railroads, buildings,
ditches and excavation of sand-gravel extraction ponds without a compre-
hensive program for storm drainage. The natural flood plain has been forced
into different alignment in several reaches and partially blocked in others.
The existence of the Hidden Lake Reservoir has muted the storm drainage
problems in the reaches below the lake, but continued development is rapidly
aggravating the problems throughout the basin.
