<br />valley and terminated in a canyon with little or no channel storage. <br /> <br />The flood reached the canYDn station at 8:15 p.m" on 30 May and <br /> <br /> <br />destroyed the gage recorder, but frDm high water marks the peak <br /> <br />discharge was estimated at 10,200 c.f.s. The Fort Collins Ex- <br /> <br /> <br />press-Courier, 1 June 1930, states that the storm, which extended into <br /> <br /> <br />the upper basin of the Cache la Poudre River, was not sufficient tD <br /> <br />increase materially the flow upstream from the mouth of the North Fork, <br /> <br /> <br />That flow was about 2,000 c.f.s., indicating that the flood peak on the <br /> <br /> <br />North Fork was about 8,000 c.f.s. No definite information regarding <br /> <br />the duration of the flood is available, but the flood reached Fort <br /> <br /> <br />Collins, 12 miles downstream, about 10 p,m, and lasted only 2 hours. <br /> <br /> <br />The chief damage of the flDOd was wrought on bridges, highways, and <br /> <br /> <br />irrigatiDn canal head gates upstream from Fort Collins, The river, <br /> <br /> <br />althDugh bankfull, did not overflow its channel in Fort Collins, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Flood of August 1951. During the afternoon and night Df 3 August <br /> <br /> <br />1951, a heavy rainstDrm occurred over the frDnt range and foothills <br /> <br />from Boulder to Fort Collins. Approximately 12 inches of rainfall <br /> <br /> <br />occurred near Bellvue. A severe flDOd resulted on the Cache la Poudre <br /> <br />River and Dn its tributary Dry Creek, The flood peak on the Cache la <br /> <br /> <br />Poudre River at a point 4 miles upstream from the mouth of Dry Creek <br /> <br /> <br />occurred at 9:50 p.m. on 3 August at an estimated 4,910 c.f.s. dis- <br /> <br /> <br />charge. A peak of 12,000 c.f.s. was estimated at Laporte, about 2 miles <br /> <br /> <br />downstream from the confluence with Dry Creek. A crest of 3,700 c.f.s. <br /> <br /> <br />was reached at 3 p,m. on 5 August at Greeley. <br /> <br />On the main stem, large areas of cropland were inundated as well <br /> <br /> <br />as numerDUS hDuses and farm buildings. Damage resulted to numerous <br /> <br /> <br />irrigation dams, headworks, and canals. At Fort Collins, runDff from a <br /> <br />small draw flooded a portion Df Colorado State College and a 10-block <br /> <br /> <br />area of Fort Collins. <br /> <br />22 <br /> <br />. <br />
