Extensive opportunities for riparian <br />restoration (including removal of non-native species such as salt cedar and Russian olive) <br />exist within the study area. <br /> <br />· In flood prone areas and at locations where the floodway is restricted, pursue <br />opportunities to increase floodway capacity; this may include retirement of lands from <br />production and conversion to pasture or riparian vegetation, pursuing opportunities to <br />relocate residents to upland areas, and converting private property, through purchase <br />and/or lease, to public/wildlife and wildlife habitat conservation properties. <br /> <br />· Prevent further encroachment on the floodway. This may be accomplished by <br />coordination and education of all local stakeholders including the general public. <br />Education efforts should also include the consequences of improper and illegal dredging <br />and channelization. <br /> <br />61 <br />
