The District has the authority to <br />regulate flood plains, but to date has chosen to leave flood plain regula- <br />tion responsibility with local governments. Prior <br />to utilization of the report for planning or design purposes, the <br />user [s advIsed to contact the Urban Drainage & Flood Control <br />District or the Colorado Water Conservation Board to determine <br />if the information in this report has been amended." <br /> <br />The Sloans Lake Drainage Basin, as shawn on Figure 1, is located in both <br /> <br />Denver and Jefferson Counties and lies generally between Colfax and <br /> <br /> <br />West 32nd Avenues and extends westerly from the South Platte River to <br /> <br />Garrison Street. The Bas in, totals almost 5.5 square mi les which is <br /> <br /> <br />generally apportioned to the local governmental jurisdictions located <br /> <br /> <br />within the Basin as follows: <br /> <br />Date Acknowledgements <br /> <br /> City of Denver 2.7 sq. mi. <br /> City of Edgewater 0.5 sq. mi. <br /> City of Lakewood 1.1 sq. mi. <br /> City of Wheat Ri dge 1.2 sq. mi. <br />Ora i nage Bas i n Characteristics <br /> <br />The report was prepared by URS Company, Consulting Engineers, Denver, <br />Colorado, at the request of the Urban Drainage & Flood Control District. <br /> <br />All survey and topographic data for this study was collected and compiled <br />by M & i, Inc., Fort Coll ins, Colorado with a contract from the Urban <br />Drainage & Flood Control District. <br /> <br />With the exception of approximately 74 acres of vacant land adjacent <br /> <br /> <br />to the American Medical Center for Cancer Research in Lakewood (formerly <br /> <br /> <br />the old JCRS faci lities - Jewish Consumptive Relief Society) and a few <br /> <br /> <br />isolated vacant lots interspersed throughout the area, the entire Basin <br /> <br /> <br />is fully developed consisting of primarily single fami ly residential <br /> <br /> <br />dwelling units. There are numerous commercial establishments located <br /> <br />within the Basin, most of which are concentrated along Sheridan Boulevard <br /> <br /> <br />on the west side of Sloans Lake. <br /> <br />Various agencies, including the Corps of Engineers, United States Geo- <br />logical Survey, Soil Conservation Service and State Engineer were con- <br />tacted during this investigation. Information provided by these agencies <br />has been Incorporated into the study.
