Haug,e
City of Breckenridge
103 South Harris
P. O. Box 168
Breckenridge, Colorado 80424

Dear Mr. Hauge:

It is my pleasure to advise you that a Flood Insurance Study for
Breckenridge has bE!en contracted by the Federal Insurance Administration
(HUD). Funding for this flood hazard study has been authorized pursuant
to the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 as amended. The firm of
Gingery Associates" Inc., whose address is 2840 South Vallejo Strf;!et,
Englewood, Colorado 80110, has been contracted to begin engineering activ-
ities for your comn~nity in the near future. It is expected that the on-
site flood hazard analysis will require 15 months to complete. Although
no financial commitment is necessary from the community in connection with
the engineering study, your cooperation with the consultant during this
course of time would be appreciated.

On May 12, 1977, a meeting was held with you to determine the scope of the
Flood Insurance Study for your community. I have attached a copy of a map
which represents the areas which will be evaluated under the consultant's
contract with the Federal Insurance Administration. If there are areas
other than those identified on the attached map which are in need of study,
please advise this office at the earliest possible date.

The purpose of the Flood Insurance Study is to provide technical data
which serves as the basis for the regulation of flood hazard areas. It
is the legal responsibility of local government to protect the health,
safety, and welfare of its residents from the hazards of flooding. When
the Flood Insurance Study is completed, it will be necessary for your
government to enact legally enforceable regulations governing new con-
strue-tion and substantial improvement within the flood hazard areas. To
provide you with assistance on the subject of flood plain management and
the various aspects of the National Flood Insurance Program, I will be

,

1
.1
, I
I

I
I

I

i

r i
,
. ,

; !

,
. ,

, i

, I
