(9) Direot f'lood damages'to orops, farm land and improvements, ir-
rigation faoilities, highways and bridges are evaluated, and indireot losses
due to floods, estimated. Among the direot damage8, oaving banks is listed
with the oomment tmt it is one of the major souroes of damage, but, sinoe
oaving also ooours at less than bankful stages, no segregation of damage
oould be made, and no item has, b~en entered for damages from this 8ouroe.
Beoause of laok of information with whioh to evaluate indirect losses, suoh
losses have been assumed to equal the oaloulateddireot losses.
.. Based on reports of highway au~horities for average annual re-
pairs due to floods.

(10) The report states that, "generally, looalinterests desire
flood oontrol and oonservation of water on the main river and headwaters,
and bank stabilization." Several small dam sites were reoommended by the
looal people for investigation.

(11) Army Engineer studies indioate that there are three logioal
dam-sites for flood oontrol arid water storage, at Badito, hear Mustang, and
at the oonfluenoe of the Huet'fano and Cuohara Rivers. The report states,
"that owing to limited flood oontrol benefits, and to the small supplementary
storage oapaoity to be obtained, the oon8truction of a dam at the Badito
site would not be eoonomioll.lly jusbified. Studies also indiQate that a dam
at the oonfluenoe site would not be praotioable owing to unfavorable foun-
dation oondition."
