I presume you have no idea of what losses <br />that would have occasioned the farmers and shippers in that neighborhood? <br /> <br />Mr. Ridgeway: No. I guess the farmers and shippers would ba the <br />best judges of that. <br /> <br />Mr. Corlett: I have a letter from Honorable A. L. Moses, Judge of this <br />District, addressed to Mr. Carroll, in whioh he comments on and tells the <br />story relative to, tlle flood whioh ocourred Qn Ootober 8, 1911 when he was <br />there. I will present this in evidenoe. (Statement attached and marked <br />Exhibi t 7.) <br /> <br />I have a letter from Mr. W. W. Platt, City Attorney for A1amosa, in <br />which he cOlments on the flood of 1921 and various other floods. (Letter <br />attached and marked Exhibit 8.) <br /> <br />I wish to present a statement of Mr. A. H. Webster, a very old <br />resident of the San Luis Valley Nld he represented the Travelers Insurance <br />Company in what was called the North Farm, a large ranch which was affected <br />by flOods on the river. He oonments on several floods of the River, the <br />Rio Grande, particularly the 1911 flood whioh was very disastrous beoause <br />of the fact that it was not expeoted. It was in the fall of the year and <br />not in the spring.. <br />(Statement attaohed hereto and marked Exhibit 9.) <br /> <br />We also have a ~arge ~tm:ber of piotures showing flood conditions on <br />the Rio Grande, and would like to offer these piotures with the request <br />that we be permitted to withdraw them and have six oopies made which we <br />will send to you. <br /> <br />Co!., Besson: That will be alright., <br /> <br />Mr. Corlett: I have a statement made by Mro Roy S. Shahan of <br />Alamosa. Ho r~s Lem:;. ong'Olged in the .real estd" business with head_ <br />quarters at AJamosa fc" 4D years, and has !mown that area all that time <br />and he knows the 6ntiro San Luis Valley area, Mr. Shahan brings out the <br />situa~on at Alamosa and the efforts of the city of,Alamosa to proteot <br />its levees. He tells of the neoessity of installing a pumping plant to <br />pump the sewerage in to the sewerage outlets, ,and of the construction of <br />standpipes and. waterworks which were installed because the City could <br />not afford thE' expensG of maintaining the diversion dam on the Rio <br />Grande..
