<br /> <br />TO: Mr. David Walker <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />Ron Rossmiller <br />Wright Water Engineers, Inc. <br /> <br />DATE: March 27, 19S9 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Union Avenue Boatchute Operation and Meeting <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br />On March 22, 19S9 the Union Avenue boatchute model was operated by U.S. Bureau <br />of Reclamation personnel through a flow range of 50 cfs through 3,500 cfs. A list <br />of the 22 people who participated in the model operation and attended the meeting <br />afterward is attached. <br /> <br />When the participants arrived at 9:00 a. m., the model was operating with a flow of <br />300 cfs. Other flow rates used were 50, 100, 500, SOD, 1000,2000, and 3500 cfs. <br /> <br />Cliff Pugh of the USBR began by discussing the improvements made to the model as <br />requested by the agencies and various participants since the last demonstration run <br />meeting. These included modifications to the boat chute at the crest of the existing <br />USACE dam and modifications to the crest of the existing USACE dam. <br /> <br />The boat chute had been modified to improve the flow patterns and modify the height <br />of the downstream wave throughout the range of boating flows. Cliff said he was <br />going to make one additional modification which should eliminate canoes hanging up <br />at the lower flow rates (even though the boatchute is not aimed at providing for <br />eastern-type recreational canoes). <br /> <br />The inner wall of the rectangular concrete channel downstream of the radial gate <br />had been lowered to its existing elevation.
