I. INTRODUCTION

The North Ouray. Uncompahg,-e River Redevelopment project will involve improvememts to nearly

5.000 feet of the Uncompahgre River within the City of Ouray. The primary goals of the project are to reduce

the flood plain limits and enhance the river corridor. These two goals will be achieved by alterations to the

channel. which will return the Uncompahgre River to a more stable geomorphic state and result in confinement

of the flood plain.

This report serves as a supplement to the CLOMR application for the North Ouray, Uncompahgre

River Redevelopment Project. The plrpose of the work presented in this report was to set the general

geomorphic and sediment transport guiclelines for developing a fiood control and river enhancement project

which will develop a channel in a statE> of quasi-dynamic equilibrium. To achieve this purpose, the work

involved geomorphic assessment of the existing channel, clevelopment of project channel cross-sectional and

plan form geometry to satisfy geomorphi,: and sediment transpoli: conditions. and assessment of the hydraulic

and sediment transport characteristics of the proposed channel. Efforts conducted on the project included

two site visits, collection of bed material samples, geomorphic analysis. hydrologic analysis, interaction with

Foley and Associates on hydraulic analysis and design, and sediment transport analyses. The actual

hydraulic analyses. channel design implementation and preparation of construction drawings and

specifications for the Uncompahgre River Redevelopment Project were performed by Foley and Associates.

The results of FLO's effort are presented in the following six chapters. A general description of the

project site and Ouray area is presented in Chapter 2. Hydrologic information used in the geomorphic,

hydraulic and sediment transport analy;es are developed in Chapter 3. Geomorphic analyses of existing

condition and development of the project condition geomorphic parameters are presented in Chapter 4. The

results and comparison of existing and project condition hydraulic analyses are provided in Chapter 5. The

analysis of sediment transport conditions is presented in Chapter 6. Chapter 7 summarizes the analysis and

conclusions concerning the proposed pl'Oject.

1.1
