Shrine Road <br />above Cheyenne Mtn <br /> <br />The Colorado Office of Emergency Manage- <br />ment has prepared this Flood Hazard Mitiga- <br />tion Plan with the intention of offering <br />concrete, realistic suggestions that the City of <br />Colorado Springs can initiate to help mini- <br />mize the flood hazard. Community educa- <br />tional activities will continue through the City <br />Office of Emergency Management under the <br />direction of Donna Fair. Request for presen- <br />tation and lectures are welcomed by this of- <br />fice. Organizations and schools present prime <br />opportunities to teach mitigation. To lessen <br />the severity of an event is everyone's goal. <br /> <br />This storm should serve as a glimpse of what <br />a 'major event would cost homeowners and <br />government. The cost of damages on June 17 <br />is estimated at $1,000,000.00. Of the esti- <br />mated eighty reports returned, one person <br />had flood insurance. <br /> <br />Flood Insurance <br /> <br />The EI Paso County Regional Building De- <br />partment estimates over 14,000 people live in <br />flood plain areas.
