When any home or business has made a special <br /> <br />effort to elevate the storage location, that factor should be considered <br /> <br />in the inventory. <br /> <br />INVENTORY OF OUTSIDE PROPERTY <br /> <br />Damage to outside property can be very significant, particularly in <br /> <br />flash floods and other high velocity situations, Even so, outside property <br /> <br />is seldom given thorough evaluation, Consequently, no commonly used <br /> <br />procedures have been established for estimating loss to outside property. <br /> <br />The following is a list of considerations for determining the value <br /> <br />and susceptibility of outside property: <br />Outside Buildin~s, Garages, sheds, and other small buildings are <br /> <br />particularly vulnerable to collapse or being washed away by swift current, <br /> <br />The building material and value of these structures should be noted, <br /> <br />Residential garages are often storage areas for electrical and mechanical <br /> <br />equipment, subject to shorting out, corrosion, and rust, <br /> <br />Vehicles. In many cases, vehicles receive a major portion of flash- <br /> <br />flood damage, Expected vehicle damage potential should be given a lot of <br /> <br />attention where the flood warning lead time is six hours or less, It is <br /> <br />important to not only consider the lead time, but the potential evacuation <br /> <br />routes and likelihood that people are available to move the vehicles, <br /> <br />Motor vehicles can suffer extensive damage from floods that barely reach <br /> <br />the first floor level of nearby buildings, Even in situations where there <br /> <br />is a sophisticated warning and preparedness system, there may not be <br /> <br />enough lead time to move vehicles, <br /> <br />V.32 <br />
