Candidate, Civil Engineering Department <br /> <br />DATE 02-15-96 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Extreme Streamflow Task Status <br /> <br />In accordance with Task 4 of the Draft Proposal to the Colorado State Engineer's Office, I am <br />currently developing an Extreme Streamflow Data Base to complement the Extreme Precipitation <br />Storm List. <br /> <br />I have attached a brief summary report which presents the work in greater detaiL <br /> <br />The following work has been completed: <br /> <br />. obtained the USGS Indirect Measurement File:, <br />. manipulated the Indirect File for import into Microsoft Excel; <br />. sorted the data by date, discharge (ranking), and by river basin/county/gage; <br />. manually compared the indirect and storm lists by date; <br />. amended the indirect file and added Storm List Numbers and comments; <br />. developed an indirect "short list" that matches discharges to storms, sorted by Storm Number; <br />. developed a storm "short list" that matches storms to discharges; <br />. noted the types of storms that had indirect measurements (and number of measurements); <br />. noted storm coverage of maximum indirect discharges greater than 5,000 efs (arbitrary <br />criterion) <br />. noted dates and numbers of indirect measurements that possibly indicate extreme floods not <br />covered by the storm list_ <br /> <br />Work to be completed includes: <br /> <br />. checking the existing indirect file for completeness of historic and relatively recent data <br />(discussed in the attached summary report); <br />. successfully obtaining the maximum discharge and date from the USGS peak How files for <br />each stream gage, possibly gathering the top 3 or 5 peaks as we discussed (in process); <br />. comparing the storm list to the peak flows. <br />
