WI DNR

· Adapted from The Riverwork Book (1988) prepared by the U.S. Depanment of the Interior, National Park Service.

5 WHEN,

Identify when to take each action. Determine
the timeframe and the sequence of events,
panicularly if there are fixed deadlines. For
example, a hearing date may be scheduled to
gather public comments on an environmental
impact statement for a proposed water treat-
ment facility to be located on the watershed. In
other cases, you may only need to set general
deadlines. One action may not begin until
another is completed. A general plan or guide
which considers all the timeframes will help
you beller plan and implement your work.

In summary. the action agenda outlines a
framework for taking actions in a logical
sequence, enabling you to fulfill your flood-
plain mitigation plan goals and objectives.

Develop and submit
application.

Suggestion No.3 Include the
action agenda or strategies for
implementation as an element within
the plan itself.

Having an integrated action agenda to imple-
ment your plan is a sman idea. If you identify
who is responsible for implementing the plan,
as well as the general benchmarks or
timeframes for actions, implementation will be
smoother and more effective. You will need to
make adjustments as issues come Up. but at
least you will have a general strategic frame-
work to work from.

Having an implementation element as part of
the plan adopted by the policy board will
commit the necessary people and identify areas
for which they are responsible. Before this
commitment takes place, the key players will
have already participated in planning from stan
to finish in developing the mitigation plan.

Table 5

Example Aclion Agenda
{Adapted from The
Riverwork Book. 1988.
prepared by the U.S.
Department of the
Interior, Na/ional Park
Service]

COMMUNITY FLOOD MITIGATION PL.ANNING GUIDEBOOK

69
