There have been no
previous efforts to construct flood protection berms on the south side.

B. Design Criteria.
The desIgn criteria to be used for construction of flood control berms.
as prov ided by the Colorado Water Conservation Board. are as follows:
1. Freeboard above 100 year water surface level.
a. 100 feet upstream fran Gunnison Avenue Bridge - 4 ft. freeboard
b. Remainder of levee system - 3 ft. freeboard
2. Construction of levee.
a. Top width - 8 ft.
b. Side slopes - 1 on 3 for grass cover and 1 on 1 for rock riprap
c. No decrease in channel conveyance for the existinq channel.

C. Design Data.
Information on 100 year flood levels was obtained frOO! the Flood Plain
Information Report. Lake Fork of the Gunnison and Henson Creek in Lake City.
Colorado prepared by WestWater Engineering in October. 1985. Field survey
information included the following:
1. A 1" = 200' topograph ic map with 5 foot contours prepared by Merrick
and Canpany in 1977.
2. A profi Ie of the north and south banks and stream bed prepared by the
Colorado Water Conservation Board in August. 1985.
3. A cross-section at station 3+00 prepared by the Colorado Water
Conservation Board (scale 1" = 200'). (Not used in design.)
4. Photographs taken by WestWater Engineering personnel and Ken
Charles. Hinsdale County Planner.

D. Land Ownership.
The enclosed plat and letter indicates ownership of land adjacent to the
project site. It is recommended that right of way agreements be obtained
frOO! all affected landowners.

il
II

11-2
