This submittal includes the preliminary design and supporting
information for construction of a flood protection berm on Henson Creek in
Lake City. Included in this submittal are:
1. A narrative report describing the existing situation and design
criteria and data (Part II).
2. Hydrologic and hydraul ic data from the recently completed Flood
Plain Report for Lake City (Part Ill).
3. A preliminary design consisting of profiles, cross-sections, and
estimated quantities and costs (Part IV).
4. General construction specifications for the project, (Part V).

Location. The project will consist of installing flood protection berms
(levees) on Henson Creek, from the Gunnison Avenue Bridge approximately 800
feet upstream to a point where Henson Creek emerges from a narrow, steep-
walled canyon. The proj ect will be entirely within the Town limits of
Lake City.
Need for Proj ect. The purpose of the proj ect wi II be to prevent Henson Creek
fran over-topping its banks or eroding stream channels in the proj ect reach
during floods exceeding the 100 year flow. With the completion of this
proj ect, all portions of both Henson Creek and Lake Fork of the Gunnison
channels within the Town of Lake City will have flood protection berms
sufficient to prevent damage during the 100 year flows.
Authorization. This preliminary report and design has been authorized by the
Town of Lake City with support fran the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
Application of Design Information. Due to the limited field information
available, the alignment and cross-sections are approximate only. Informa-
tion in this report is limited to the following applications:
1.) developing a proj ect construction budget and
2.) as guidelines for construction by Town and County crews,
in conj unction with a field design by an Engineer.

1-1
