RECOMMENDED ACTIONS

In order to identify and prioritize key issues and recommendations for hazard
mitigation, the IHMT reviewed all recommendations made in previous years and
identified in IHMT reports and state plans. Emphasis was placed on
recommendations cited most frequently. Recommendations listed in at least
four documents were carried forward.

Through this process, eight recommendations emerged, which fell into three
general categories:
. planning, standards, codes and regulatory measures;
. acquisition, relocation, infrastructure and protective measures; and
. public education and awareness.

The IHMT defined the process for implementation, including roles and
responsibilities of lead agencies, set timelines, and identified potential funding
sources. The team also developed a tracking and reporting process to
document and evaluate the results achieved during implementation, which will
enable adjustments to strategies as necessary.

4
