<br />additional public and private sources of funding and technical assistance. <br /> <br />By September 1998, a Final Conoept Plan including a detailed site plan for the Main <br />Street Extended area was endorsed by the Town Council that included the following: <br /> <br />. areas for passive recreation including a walking trail, pavilion, handicapped <br />accessible pimic area, open area for lawn games, and related park amenities <br /> <br />. outdoor educational facilities including a nature trail, stream access area, <br />shelter/pavilion for arts, science, and history classes, and interpretive signage <br />explaining flood history and strean1 restoration goals <br /> <br />. Improvements to habitat value of the strean1 and adjacent lands through <br />revegetation of the site with native plants, and enhancement of stream buffers <br /> <br />With the final concept plan in hand, the Westernport Parks Committee began efforts to <br />see that the plan became a reality. They sponsored a "Name The Park" contest, <br />organized community projects and events, coordinated local fundraising efforts, and <br />provided recommendations to the Mayor and Town Council on various park <br />development decisions.
