RANGELY.OAT

The first HEC-2 file used in this study was RANGELY.OAT.
This file was the restoration of the original FIS 100-year
existing conditions and floodway file. This file was
restored by manually re-entering the input data from the
microfiche to the computer. When this was done the file was
executed and the computed water surface elevations given in
the output file from the microfiche.

The results of the restored file were within 0.01 or
0.02 foot of the original file except for a few cross
sections. Correction of some typographical Elrrors in the
restored file resulted in close agreement bet:ween the
computed water surface elevations from the restored and
original files at all cross sectionl~ except for section 58.0,
which remained about 0.1 foot different. Because this
section was located some distance from the area of the
Section 22 study, the difference at this sed:ion was not
important and was since the cause could not be immediately
determined, no further changes were made. Table 2 of the
main text compares the 100-year flood elevati.ons from the
original and restored files in the area of the Section 22
study.

After the 100-year and floodway water surface elevations
from the restored file were found to be acceptable, the
RANGELY. OAT file was modified to also computE! the 10--, 50-
and SOD-year flood water surface profiles. 1'he exact
starting water surface elevations for the other profiles were
not readily available from the microfiche, since some parts
of the original input and output printouts WE!re poorly
reproduced.

The starting water surface elevations for these profiles
were established from the known 100--year starting elevation
using the difference between 100-year water surface profile
and the other profiles shown at the downstream limit of the
water surface profiles plotted in the Rangely FIS text. To
check the results of the 10-, 50-- and SOD-year profiles, the
output from the restored file was plotted and the profiles
compared with those in the FIS text.. This comparison showed,
that in the Section 22 study area, t:he profiles matched
closely.

The restored file, RANGELY.DAT was the basic file which
was modified to provide the other files used in the study.
