<br />results of meteorologic studies which combine wind velocity. duration. <br /> <br /> <br />direction. and seasonal distribution characteristics in a realistic manner. <br /> <br />ONE PERCENT CHANCE FLOOD. - A flood that has 1 chance in 100 of being equaled <br />or exceeded in a specified time period. usually 1 year. <br /> <br />OUTLET WORKS. - A dam appurtenance that provides release of water (gene:'ally <br />controlled) from a reservoir. <br /> <br />PMF (PROBABLE MAXIMUM FLOOD). - The most severe flood that is considered <br />reasonably pOSSible at a site as a result of hydrologic and meteorologic <br />conditions. <br /> <br />PMP (PROBABLE MAXIMUM PRECIPITATION). - Theoretically. the greatest depth of <br />precipitation for a given duration that is physically possible over a given <br />size storm area at a particular geographic location at a certain time of <br />year. <br /> <br />RESERVOIR REGULATION PROCEDURE. - Compilation of operating procedures that <br />govern reservoir storage and releases. <br /> <br />RISK. - The probability of occurrence of adverse events. <br /> <br />SPILl.WAY. - A waterway used to convey water from a reservoir which may be <br />either gated or ungated. Definition of specific types of spillways follows: <br /> <br />. Service spillway. - A spillway that is designed to provide continuous <br /> <br /> <br />or frequent regulated or unregulated releases from a reservoir without <br /> <br /> <br />significant damage to either the dam or its appurtenant structures. <br /> <br />4 <br />
