Authority and Scope <br /> <br />1. Authority for report. This report is submitted in accordance <br />with paragraph 5 of Circular Letter No. 4250 (Civil Works No. 62), dated <br />5 November 1946, file No. ENGV,E 800.73, subject, "Prompt Reporting of <br />Flood Conditions". <br /> <br />2. Arrangement of report. The re?ort is arranged in the following <br />order: <br /> <br />I. Authority and Scope. <br />II. Floods in South Platte River Basin. <br />III. Floods in North Platte River Basin. <br />IV. Flood Damage Summary. <br /> <br />3. Scope. This report records the results of investigations of the <br />pertinent hydrology relative to the floods which occurred during the calen- <br />dar year 1947 on the North and South Platte Rivers and their tributaries, <br />all lying within the Denver district; and estimates of the damages caused <br />by these floods (see District map. plate No.1). All press and radio rB. <br />ports of floods in the district were immediately investigated, and photo- <br />graphs, high-water marks, estimates of damages, rainfall data, and other <br />pertinent flood data were obtained. Frequently investigations of reported <br />floo'ds revealed damages to be ,minor, the floods resulting primarily from <br />side-hill runoff rather than from overflow of streams. <br /> <br />I" <br /> <br />". <br /> <br />4. Cooperation with other Federal agencies. In compliance with <br />instructions contained in paragraph 9 of Engineer Bulletin No.2, 1942, <br />subject, "Cooperative Hydrologic Program with the Weather Bureau", file <br />No. C.E. 7396-SPEEN, the flood damage estimates obtained by this office <br />on the floods in the South Platte River basin were informally submitted <br />to and were accepted by the U. S. Weather Bureau, Denver, Colorado, <br />office. The estimate of-damage near Gering, Nebraska, on 17-18 June 1947, <br />has been submitted to the Weather Bureau for oomment. <br /> <br /> <br />5. List of data on file. The following dat~ relevant to the damag- <br />ing floods described in this report are on file in the Denver district <br />office: <br /> <br />a.
