9. Discharj';e and Damages. The maximum discharge \las estimated at
15,000 cubic feet per second just below the ,,:outh of Sund Creek with ac-
companying damages mainly to 1,000 acres of low lying crops and pasture,
but including washouts of several approaches to oounty bridges. A sUm-
10. Floods on Sand, First, Second, Third "nd Other Creeks. On ;,;tly
30, 1948, an intense convective ty?e storm struck first at Welby, Color~co.
near Denver and moved eastward increasing ill intensity as it progrossed.
The storl'l dissipated in the vicinity of Strtlsburg, Colorado. Flooding
oocurred over low lying seotions of Sand, First, Seoond, Third tlnd other
creeks, east of Denver (see Plate 3).

11... Discharges and Damages. Slope-area measurements were made on
the streams which had been in flood as a result of the storm and a dan:age
survey Has made. The dalllD.ges resulting from the storm and the ensuring
floods were severe. Twenty-two highway bridges, spanning, Sand, First,
Second, and Third Creeks, were washed out. Several irrigation channels
were breached. In the City of Aurora, Westerly Creek again ovorflowed,
disrupting traffic, inundating 32 homes, und putting the sewage plant out
follows.
