Authority and Scope <br /> <br />1. Authority fcr report. This report is submitted in compliance <br />with instructions contained in paragraph 4223.05 Orders and Regulations. <br /> <br />2, Arrangement of report. The report is arranged in the following <br />order: <br /> <br />I. Authority and Scope. <br />II. Floods in the South Platte River Basin. <br />III. Floods in the North Platte River Basil~ <br />IV. Flood Damage Summary. <br />V. Benefits Assignable to Corps of Engineers Flood Control <br />Projects. <br /> <br />3. Scope. This report records the results of investigations of <br />the pertinent hydrology relative to the floods that occurred during the <br />calendar year 1948 on the North and South Platte Rivers and their trib- <br />utaries, all lying within the Denver District, and estimates of the <br />damages caused by these floods (see District map, plate no. 1). All <br />press and radio reports of floods in the District were immediately in- <br />vestigated, and photographs, high-water marks, estimates of damages, <br />rainfall data, and other pertinent flood data were obtained. <br /> <br />4. Cooperation witp_ other Federal Agencies: In compliance with <br />instructions contained in paragraph ,9 of Engine~r Bulletin, No.2, 1942, <br />dated 9 June 1942, subject: "Cooperative Hydrologic Program with the <br />Weather Bureau.." file No" C,B, 7396 - SPEEN, a copy of the flood damages <br />contained in this report will be furnished the Weather Bureau. Flood <br />Damage Estimates and Comments on Flcods Occurring in the North and South <br />Platte Basins have been informally submitted to the U, S. Weather Bureau <br />Offices at Denver, Colorado, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Lincoln, Nebraska. <br />In addition valuable discharge data was obtained from the Water Supply <br />Branoh of the U. S, Geological Survey and informative data relative to <br />storms waS exchanged with the Bureau of Reclarna Gion and the Forest <br />Service. <br /> <br />5. List of data on file. The follo.ring data relevant to the <br />damaging floodS--described in this report are on file in the Denver <br />District office. <br /> <br />a, Clippings from the leading newspapers published within <br />the area of interest. <br />
