the Gering Main Drain, and came to rest on the right bank of the Main
Drain with the occupants frightened but uninjured.

26. Indirect damages. The indirect flood damages are limited to
the increased cost of operation to the fanners resulting fram the loss
of bridges, and the loss in crop production resulting from the damage to
irrigation structures. An estimated 50 farmers in or near the flooded
area sustained an average of $75 damage, or a total of $3,750, as a result
of the increased cost of operation and transportation costs. The destruo-
tion of the siphons under the Mitchell and Central Irrigation Canals pre-
yented the irrigation of approximately 10,000 acres of cultivated land dur-
ing July, and the manager of the Gering-Ft. Laramie Irrigation District es-
timated a resulting 25% reduction in crop production. This estimated loss
totals $125,000.

27. Indirect damages due to interruption of traffic on the main
arterial highways in the flooded area were negligible because of the short
time the traffic was stopped, and beoause of the short detours required.
Traffic on the Union Pacific Railroad was interrupted for about 2-1/2 days,
resulting in an estimated total loss of r~venue of $1,250. Evacuation
losses totaled only $100, as only two families were displaoed for a
period of a few days.

28. Summary of flood damages.
