The 1989 Black Tiger Fire left the <br />area bare of vegetation. The road had never <br />been flooded before the 1989 fire. <br />Cherry Creek overflowed its banks near S. <br />University Boulevard during a thunderstorm <br />that dropped up to 2 nches of rain in <br />approximately 2 hours. <br />The drainage ditch was clogged and the sudden <br />onslaught of rain caused the water to burst <br />from the ditch. ( Approximately) <br />Approximately 2.5 to 3.0 inches of rain fell <br />in a two hour period causing Black Tiger <br />Gulch, a tributary of Boulder Creek. to flood <br />for the second time this season. The flood <br />carried trees, brush and rocks into the <br />roadway blocking traffic for three hours. 3 <br />inches of muddy water covered Highway 119 for <br />60 to 70 feet. <br />Am ice jam gaveway in Snowmass Canyon above <br />the town of Basalt. The 4 foot high ice <br />surge flowed through the town in <br />approximately 10-15 minutes hitting the town <br />between 3 and 3:30pm.
