e

.

.

..;

SYLLABUS

The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate flood
problems on the Colorado River at the Riverside and Rosevale
communities of Grand Junction, Colorado, to determine if an
economically and environmentally sound plan could be developed to
reduce flood damages. Alternatives included levee/floodwall
combinations, elevating all structures above the lOa-year flood
elevation, and purchasing all structures within the laO-year
flood plain. The damage analysis showed that the Riverside and
Rosevale communities are subject to significant flood damages.
However, none of the alternatives was economically feasible
(benefit-cost ratio ranged from 0.3 to 0.7). No further studies
are recommended at this time.
