Runoff <br /> <br />and flow characteristics were discussed in Section I of this report <br /> <br />and it is not considered necessary to repeat them in this section. <br /> <br />A. DETENTION STORAGE <br /> <br />The detention storage provided in the areas (10 different ponds) <br /> <br />is the most common type used in urban drainage works. Gener- <br /> <br />ally, low flows are not affected. When the inflow is larger, <br />~- - .- ..':..... <br /> <br />though, the proper functioning of detention storage reduces the <br /> <br />outflow from the storage to a rate much less than the inflow. <br /> <br />This results in smaller capacity works being needed at the out- <br /> <br />let structure. <br /> <br />Potential storage, other tha~ the proposed detention pond which <br /> <br />should be considered and which is stres'sed in some of the <br /> <br />major areas within the report is as follows: <br /> <br />l.
