. Brief description of the levee

. Description of protected area

. Brief description of river characteristics by the
levee

. Levee composition and adjacent area soils

. Cross-sectional measurements of the levee and length

. Description of condition of levee in 10 categories

. Estimated ground elevations, flood elevations,
freeboards, termination conditions, and a plan sketch

c. Stationinq and Cross-Referencinq. - The stat~oning used
for this study is that used in the FEMA flood insurance studies.
The stations are given as the distance in river miles above Lee
Ferry, Arizona. The convention used in this report for left and
right banks, is referenced based on facing downstream. A
schematic illustrating this, as well as the terms used on the
inspection sheets, is included as the first page of Appendix B.
The inspection sheets provide approximate stationing of the
inventoried levees. Their locations are on the topography maps
(Appendix C) by similar stationing. The water surface profiles
(Appendix D) are also indexed by this same stationing. The pages
in Appendixes B, C, and D are arranged sequentially starting at
the upstream end of the inventory reach.

7. Inventorv of Levee SYstems.

Following is a description of each levee segment (or site)
in the study area with respect to its meeting or not meeting FEMA
standards. The descriptions clarify information presented on the
inspection sheets in Appendix B (and the other appendixes). It
should be noted again that the inventory only identified:
observable surface conditions, and no information relating to the
engineering adequacy of levee features should be inferred.

It was found that all inventoried levee segments do not
appear to meet FEMA standards and would need to be upgraded to
the requirements outlined in section 6a, FEMA Interim Levee
POlicy, in any attempt to secure FEMA flood plain map revisions.
A potential levee at site G is being evaluated by the corps and
the City of Grand Junction. If constructed, this levee would
meet FEMA standards. Table 2 provides a summary of the 19
inspected (and 1 proposed) sites:

7
