This is primarily because of the <br />convective nature of thunderstorms on the eastern plains of Colorado, which <br />produce significant spatial variability within a region. <br /> <br />4.1.4.1 Storm Duration and Rainfall Quantities <br /> <br />The storm duration for the August 5 and 6 rainfall shown in Table 4.1-1, 26 <br />hours, was based on NWS (National Weather Service) radar data taken from <br />the Pueblo Weather Service Office (see Technical Addendum for radar <br />images). A summary of the point precipitation collected for this storm event <br />is presented in Table 4.1-3. The radar data of precipitation totals and the <br />NWS cooperative ground-level observations were converted to isohyets and <br />are displayed in Figure 4.1-2. As observed from this map, the largest pocket <br />of rainfall, 3.5+ inches, fell over southeastern Baca County.
