<br />II <br />a <br />c <br /> <br />IJ <br /> <br />c <br />[ <br />r <br />[ <br /> <br />lJ <br /> <br />[ <br />G <br />[ <br />t <br />( <br />R <br />C <br />C <br />r. <br />~ <br /> <br />Final Report <br /> <br />Colorado Partners for Wildlife <br />National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Grant NA WP #94094 <br /> <br />On December 23, 1993, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation approved a challenge grant of <br />$300.000 to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Colorado Partners for Wildlife Program. <br />Although adequate matching non, federal challenge funds were available to the Partners for <br />Wildlife program from December 1993, timd transfer to the Foundation proved more time <br />consuming than anticipated, The Colorado Division of Wildlite provided the required challenge <br />01'$200,000 to the Foundation on January 18, 1996, Besides the $200,000 provided by the <br />Colorado Division of Wildlife, money from Ducks Unlimited, appropriated Fish and Wildlife <br />Service funds, the Playa Lakes Joint Venture, and a challenge cost share grant from the Fish and <br />Wildlile Service rounded out funding lor fiscal year 1996, Figure I presents the funding partners <br />by percent of the total program. This year also saw the first Colorado private lands project in <br />which Ducks Unlinlited provided project design and construction management as thier <br />contribution. Both Ducks Unlimited and FWS expect this type of cooperation to increase. <br /> <br />FY 1996 FUNDING PARTNERS <br /> <br /> <br />NFWF (16.84%) <br /> <br />DU MARSH (12.63%) <br /> <br />Figu re 1 <br /> <br />The Wildlife Extension Agreement (WEA) is the mechanism used by the FWS to obligate and <br />transfer project funds to cooperating landowners, From October I. 1995 to December 31, 1996, <br />the Partners lor Wildlile program signed 85 agreements with 82 landowners to restore, create or <br />enhance wildlife habitats on 2,073 acres of wetland, 3,239 acres of upland. and approxinlUtely <br />14 miles oCriparian corridor. This work was accomplished at a cost of$493,528.91 not <br />including salaries. Figure 2 displays the number of WE As by project area within Colorado, <br />
