Thus, <br />the data developed In this ~epo~t wi I I be suitable not only <br />fo~ ~egulation pu~poses, and H.B. 1041 designation but is <br />also consistent with Fede~al Insu~ance Administ~atlon flood <br />insu~ance studies conducted by the Fede~al Eme~gency <br />Management Agency. <br /> <br />These va~ious flood events have an ave~age occu~ance of once <br />In the numbe~ of yea~s as Indicated. Fo~ example, the 100- <br />yea~ flood occu~s, on the ave~age, once in a 100-yea~ <br />pe~iod, and has a one pe~cent chance of being equaled o~ <br />exceeded in any given yea~. <br /> <br />The pa~ticula~ uses fo~ the va~ious flood events in addition <br />to those stated above a~e as fo II OW5: <br /> <br />10-yea~ and 50-yea~ Flood Events <br /> <br />Info~mation ~ega~ding these lowe~ f~equency floods is <br />especially useful fo~ futu~e enginee~ing studies and land <br />use planning pu~poses ~elated to mino~ ~oad systems, mino~ <br />channel imp~ovements, the location of pa~ks and ~ec~eational <br />faci I Ities, ag~icultu~al lands, and appu~tenant st~uctu~es. <br />The use of the I owe ~ f ~equency floods may be cons I de ~ed in <br />planning flood p~evention p~ojects to p~otect ag~Icultu~al <br />a~eas, o~ othe~ p~ope~ty whe~e ~isk to I ife is not a facto~. <br /> <br />100-yea~ Flood Event <br /> <br />The 100-yea~ flood event may be used in I I eu of lower <br />f~equencies fo~ enginee~Ing design pu~poses whe~e g~eate~ <br />secu~ity f~om st~uctu~e failu~e is desi~ed. <br /> <br />Howeve~, the most impo~tant use of the 100-yea~ flood event <br />I ies in flood plain management and land use planning as set <br />fo~th in the state statutes. The State of Colo~ado and the <br />Fede~al Gove~nment conside~s the 100-yea~ f~equency flood as <br />the flood event to be used in designing and p~otecting <br />st~uctu~es and dwe II i ngs fo~ human occupati on.
