II t;:)"'/.l,S.",,,,II: ~ 3 III. STUDY AREA DESCRIPTION The study area contains the Granby and Sable Major Drainageways (Figure 1). These two watersheds are located between the Sand Creek and Toll Gate Creek watersheds in the City of Aurora and cover a total of four square miles of tributary area. The study area is bounded approximately by 1-225 on the west, 23rd Avenue on the north, Buckley Road on the east, and about 6th Avenue on the south. Approximately five stream miles are included for detailed analysis. The drainageways are tributary to Toll Gate Creek at about 23rd Avenue. A description of each drainage basin follows. ~. Sable Drainaqewav Sable Drainageway consists of a concrete-lined channel from 1-225 upstream to just north of Colfax Avenue (See Drawings). The concrete channel lining appears to be in good condition. The lower portion of Sable Drainageway passes through residential areas. Upstream of Chambers Road the land use is commercial and industrial. Sable Drainageway is carried in a 7-foot by II-foot corrugated metal arch conduit through a private development for about one block upstream of Chambers Road. Upstream of Colfax Avenue, the drainageway is not well defined. A portion of the area south of Colfax is served by local storm sewers. Runoff from the portion of the Sable Drainage Basin east of Buckley Road is now intercepted by the recently constructed Buckley Road storm sewer which drains north to Sand Creek. 1111 H . \J.L lJl~ ~I\ )Tf) \'~I V ~~ ~. .l ~ I l.J.,- ..... Granbv Drainagewav Granby Drainageway begins at Sable Drainageway just east of 1-225 (See Drawings). The drainageway consists of two 42-inch pipes just upstream of Sable Drainageway extending a distance of about 300 feet. From Billings Street to Montview Boulevard, Granby Drainageway is an open channel with gabion bank lining. Between Montview Boulevard and Colfax Avenue, Granby Drainageway is carried in a 33-inch to 60-inch storm sewer, through a mobile home park.
