<br />-"'I <br /> <br />PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br />W ALSENBURG HYDROLOGY STUDY <br /> <br />DRAFT <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />See Draft Project Description dated 28 November, 1994 <br /> <br />OBJECTIVE <br /> <br />Perform a detailed hydrologic analysis for the project watershed and. using the results of the analysis, <br />recommend alternatives for providing flood control facilities in the study area. <br /> <br />ELEMENTS OF THE PROJECT <br /> <br />1. Work directly with Tom Browning (Water Resource Engineer), Colorado Water Conservation Board, <br />1313 Sherman Street. Room 721, Denver, Colorado 80203, Phone (303) 866-3441 in planning and <br />performing this study. <br /> <br />2. Conduct site visit(s) to collect necessary field data for use in the hydrologic analyses and project <br />recommendations. Field work may include but is not limited to the following items: Inventory existing <br />drainage structures by size and type; Perform simple field surveys to obtain ground slopes and to collect <br />channel geometry information; Interview local officials, ditch company personnel, and homeowners to <br />obtain flooding history and local input regarding the project; Confirm drainage basin boundaries by <br />visual inspection; Take photographs of the existing drainage features. areas where potential projects may <br />be constructed, and other areas as needed. <br /> <br />3. Using appropriate engineering techniques and accepted guidelines, determine the geographical <br />source of surface water runoff and estimate peak discharges for both the lO-year and lOO-year storm <br />events. <br /> <br />4. Determine the existing carrying capacity of the ditch and compare it to the potential storm discharges <br />determined above. <br /> <br />5. Evaluate the study area and suggest means for conveying surface water runoff to both complement <br />the capacity of the ditch during a flood and, as an alternative, to handle runoff without using the ditch at <br />all. Provide drawings and engineering data for these alternatives in as much detail as possible. <br /> <br />6. Provide a detailed written report of findings with drawings, maps, and illustrations as appropriate and <br />make an oral presentation to appropriate local officials. <br /> <br />ADMINISTRATIVE CONSIDERATIONS <br /> <br />See Draft Project Description dated 28 November, 1994 <br />
