<br />CHAPTER VII <br />STUDY AREA DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />Draina~e Basin and Study Reach Description <br /> <br />The Elizabeth drainage study encompasses an area approximately 225 acreS <br />and addresses the floodplain and drainage problems along major drainage~aY8, <br />The location and outline of the contributing area is ShO~l in Figure-4 . <br /> <br />PART II <br />ELIZABETH DRAINAGE STUDY <br /> <br />The southern portion of the basin, comprising approxim3tely 80 acres, lies <br />outside of the town limits, Thi. area ba. good atands of ponderosa pines ~ith <br />gras.under.tory. Slopes are fairly ateep near the upper limit of tlleba.in, <br />a~eraging approximately ten percent. Land use is projected to remain lo~-den.ity <br />residential ~ith lot sires of five to ten ncreS. <br /> <br />The remaining portions of the drainsge ba.in are within the Elizabeth town <br />limits. Although a number of undeveloped aites presently exist, planned develop- <br />ments are expected to be constructed in these areas in the next few year.. The <br />primary aoning for the basin i. residential with strips of business zonlng along <br />tile highway and major atreets, <br /> <br />IntB in the residential areas are relatively large, ranging 1n size from <br />approximately one-third atre to over a"",, acre, Existing hOOles typic;ol1y l".v~ <br />law"s surrounding the house with natul'o.l gra9s vegetation in th e rear lot area, <br />Streets and drives are gravel surfaced w.th drainage ditches Oil either side <br />but future improvements may include asphaLt pavement, curbs and gutter, <br /> <br />The study reach along the Kennett Drainage begins near the intersection of <br />Tabor Street and County Road 136. The drainsgeway runs approximately 1,000 <br />feet bet""i'n Tab",' anrl South Ch~stn"t Streets to a nond detention pond <br />near the center of town. Water discharged from the pond flo~s north along <br />Elbert Street to the Elm Street intersection where it combines with the Pine <br />Ridge Drainage. The Pine Ridge Drainagedraina the northwest area of town. <br />from this point the Kennett Drainage flows nurthwest aCrOS" Broadway and Pine <br />Street to the inlet of a concrete box culvert at Banner Street, The culvert <br />convey" runoff eaat along State Highway 86 rn Running Crcek.
