<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />SECTION VI <br />MASTER PLAN IMPROVEMENTS <br /> <br />A. <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />This section summarizes the various alternative improvements that <br /> <br />were investigated during the course of study to el iminate or mini- <br /> <br />mize flood damages associated with the estimated 100-year damages <br /> <br />associated with the estimated 100-year discharge of 12,000 c.f.s. <br /> <br />The improvements investigated were based on the United States Army <br /> <br />Corps of Engineers Plan II excavated floodway concept from 6th <br /> <br />Street to 17th Street and Plan II I flood-proofing together with <br />structural modification of crossings downstream of 17th Street to <br /> <br />55th Street. <br /> <br />The various improvements investigated are presented in Table VI-I. <br /> <br />The recommended improvements are included in Table VI-l and are <br /> <br />designated by an asterisk. <br /> <br />Flow characteristics associated with the selected alternative are <br /> <br />presented in Tabe VI-2. <br /> <br />The proposed excavated floodway will provide significant flood <br /> <br />protection for the City of Boulder over existing conditions and <br /> <br />will not increase potential problems associated with sediment and <br /> <br />vegetative debris. However, the proposed floodway plan will not <br /> <br />totally el iminate the potential sediment problem and the remaining <br /> <br />debris problems are significant. <br /> <br />i <br /> <br />43 <br />
