I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

SECTION VI
MASTER PLAN IMPROVEMENTS

A.

DESCRIPTION

This section summarizes the various alternative improvements that

were investigated during the course of study to el iminate or mini-

mize flood damages associated with the estimated 100-year damages

associated with the estimated 100-year discharge of 12,000 c.f.s.

The improvements investigated were based on the United States Army

Corps of Engineers Plan II excavated floodway concept from 6th

Street to 17th Street and Plan II I flood-proofing together with
structural modification of crossings downstream of 17th Street to

55th Street.

The various improvements investigated are presented in Table VI-I.

The recommended improvements are included in Table VI-l and are

designated by an asterisk.

Flow characteristics associated with the selected alternative are

presented in Tabe VI-2.

The proposed excavated floodway will provide significant flood

protection for the City of Boulder over existing conditions and

will not increase potential problems associated with sediment and

vegetative debris. However, the proposed floodway plan will not

totally el iminate the potential sediment problem and the remaining

debris problems are significant.

i

43
