5.4 Flood Insurance Rate Map Description

The Flood Insurance Rate Map for the City of Aspen is, for insurance
purposes, the principal product of the Flood Insurance Study. This
map contains the official delineation of flood insurance zoneS and
base flood elevations. Base flood elevation lines show the loca-
tions of the expected whole-foot water-surface elevation of the
base (lOa-year) flood. The base flood elevations and zone numbers
are used by insurance agents, in conjunction with structure eleva-
tions and characteristics, to assign actuarial insurance rates to
structures and contents insured under the NFIP.

6.0 OTHER STUDIES

Because a more detailed analysis was used for this Flood Insurance Study,
it supersedes the previously printed Flood Hazard Boundary Map for Aspen
(Reference 10).

A study entitled Floodplain Information, Aspen, Colorado, by the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers was completed in 1973 (Reference 3). Also, Flood-
plain Information Report, Roaring Fork River, Aspen to Basalt, Pitkin
County, Colorado, by Wright-McLaughlin Engineers, was completed in 1976
(Reference 8). Because more detailed mapping and updated hydrology was
used, this Flood Insurance Study supersedes these previous studies.

A Flood Insurance Study is being
of Pitkin County (Reference 9).
that study are in agreement with
Study.

prepared for the unincorporated areas
Information and analyses determined for
the results of this Flood Insurance

7.0 LOCATION OF DATA

Information concerning the pertinent data used in the preparation of
this study can be obtained by contacting the Natural and Technological
Hazards Division, FEMA, Building 710, Denver Federal Center, Lakewood,
Colorado 80225.

8.0 BIBLIOGRAPHY AND REFERENCES

1.
