<br />The West Vine Or~inage Bdsin, outlined on Figure 1, is located
<br />in the northwestern portion of Fort Collins in Sections 3,4,
<br />7,~,9,lQ,17 and 18; Township 7 North, Ra~ge 69 We5t of the
<br />6th P,~. G€narally the drainage basin is bordered on the
<br />nort_h by West Vine Drive, on thco sOllth !)y Mulberry Street,
<br />on the east by Shields Streets, and on the I>'est by Horsetooth
<br />Reservoir, The study reach for hydraulic and economic analysis
<br />is that portion of the basin located east of Ove~land T~ailr
<br />howeve~, the study reach for the hydrologic analysis included
<br />the entire basin, The basin contains approximately 2246 acres,
<br />Approximately 1112 acres of the drainage basin is located w~st
<br />of Overland Trail and the majority of this acreage is owned by
<br />Colorado State University. Although C,S.U, does plan to develop
<br />this area further, no specific plans are available. Approximately
<br />260 acres of the drainage basin are currently within the City
<br />limits of Fort Collins, The drainage basin generally slopes
<br />from wc:;t to eil.st, Overland slopes range fl;om 2" perc""t dt
<br />th~ hogback located at the westerly end of the basin to 0.8
<br />percent along West Vine Driv~ in the easterly portion of the basin,
<br />The median slope is 2.15 percent and the mean slope is 3.94
<br />percent for the drainage basin. The basin slopes from ~n eleva-
<br />tion of 5760 at the hogbaek to 4910 at the Cache LaPoudrQ River,
<br />Elevation characteristics ean be seen on Figure 1_ Design storm
<br />rainfall values for the basin arC shown on Table I, page 15.

<br />Throughout the majority of tho Jrn~nnge basin there are no well
<br />defined major drainageways or thalweqs, However, through the
<br />course of the study, it became evident that two major drainage-
<br />ways e;ust above Taft Ilill Ro<>.d, One drains in a northeasterly
<br />direction and passes just to the north of Poudre High School
<br />and the other drains in an easterly direction and ~1sses to
<br />the south of Irish Elementary School through the Irish Green
<br />Subdivision. '?hese rr:.!Ijor drClinilgeways combine just east of
<br />:;''lft Hill Road and the resultant drainagewa_y drains in an
<br />easterly direction along tho south side of West vine Drive to the
<br />Hanna SUbdivision located just west of Shields, At that
<br />pOint major storm runoff turns and drains in a northerly
<br />
