Ill.

FLOOD HISTORY

The West Vine Drain~gc Basin has a history of problems creat~d
by litorm runoff. Three aNaS which are known to have problems
includ~ the Irish Green Subdivision, the subdivision in the
northwest corner of the intersection of Taft Hill Road and
LaPorte Avenue and the Second Filing of the Hanna Subdivision,
Conversations with residents of the Irish Green Subdivision
indicated that nearly every year several homes have storm runoff
up to the level of the foundations. The majority of the homes
in the lower areaS of the subdivision have SUl'lP pumps and it
is not unusual to pump out 2000 gallons a day after an intense
or prolonged storm. Many furnaces have been ruined due to storm
runoff. After an intense or prolonged period of storm runoff,
the storm sewer, which consists of 12 inch diameter to 18 inch
diameter pipe, surch~rges consistently, after which it takes
12 to IB hours to dr~in the sump areas of the subdivision.
Storm runoff drains along lot lines between Webb Avenue and
IriSh Drive practically every ye~r,

!

the station in a 18 hour period, and photographs Were taken on
the 18th showing localized flooding in the West Vine Drainage
B",;in.
