<br />* Anchorage and splicing detalls~ particularly size, type, location, and method of <br />connect Ion. <br /> <br />Safety Considerations - Commonsense safety Is necessary to reduce the chance of Injury and <br />possible loss of life. Some safety considerations are listed below: <br /> <br />* Safe access and safe working conditions must be provided at al r work areas. <br />Unstable bluffs must be graded to a safe slope. <br /> <br />* A first aid kit should be available. Everyone should be physically qualified to <br />perform the work required. No one should expose himself to Injury. <br /> <br />* Protective clothing, such as safety shoes, gloves, goggles, and hard hats should <br />be worn by persons engaged in work requiring this protection. <br /> <br />* Construction materials should be stored In an orderly manner on a solid, level <br />surface. <br /> <br />* Waste materials should be removed from the work area dally. <br /> <br />Inspection Considerations - Supervision of construction Is very Important. Close <br />attention to detal I Is needed to assure that the final design wi I I perform as anticipated. <br />Prior to and during actual construction make a complete review of the plan. A checklist <br />of the Important Items are described below. <br /> <br />* Start a pictorial record with pictures of exIsting conditions. Continue this <br />through al I stages of construction. <br /> <br />* Establish elevations of known polnts~ layout line, and grade for construction. <br /> <br />* Note changes In the terrain that may require a change In the plan or the layout of <br />construct Ion. <br /> <br />* Check material sources for compliance with plans. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />Inspect work to insure compl lance with plans. <br /> <br />* Record dimensions, limiting heights and depths on as-bul It plans. <br /> <br />* Ma I nta I nap I ctor I a I record throughout the II fe of the structure part I cu I ar I y <br />after damaging storms. <br /> <br />B. PERMIT REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />Federal and State permits are required prior to the construction of any work In, under, <br />across, or on The banks of navigable waters of the UniTed StaTes. All modifIcations of <br />these areas are regulated by Section 10 of the River and Water Act of 1899 and Section 404 <br />of the Clean Water Act. A permit Is required to Install property protection and/or <br />reclamation devices such as rlprap, breakwaters, jetties, etc. Regulatory Functions <br />Branch of the US Army Corps of Engineers, upon request, wi II furnish application forms~ <br />instructions, and other technical assistance needed. <br /> <br />9 <br />
