The }~ater surface profiles and pertinent hydraulic design data are pre-

sented in Appendix II, "Hydraulic Design." Preproject flood plains are

shoun on plate 6 and postproject flood plains on plate 7.
24. Wolf Creek Diversion. The recol1lr.lended plan as shown on plate 7

liould consist of a levee on the a.lignment of the existing levee along

Wolf Creek Iii th an outfall channel to the Arkansas River. This liould

extend from high ground on the right bank south of U.S. Highliay 50 and

continue past State HighIVay 51 to the northeast. The proposed diversion

liould be designed to convey the peak discharge of the standard project

flood of 41,000 c.f.s. past Granada. For economy of the p'roject, the

design of the outfall channel l'l()uld be for a discharge less than SPF.

25. Existing Conditions. The capacity of the existing levee syster.l

that extends from about 1/3 mile sO\J.th of Colorado State Higll1~ay 50 to

the AT&SF Railroad Bridge is about 12,500 c.f.s. TIlis section of levee

is the main protection for the to"n of Granada. The' levee is fron the

north side of the AT&SF Railroad Bridge northeast to Colorado State

lIighIVay51 Ilridge then continues east for about 1-1/2 miles. ;\'ith the

existing levee system the to,m of Granado is protected from floods of

standard project flood magnitudes on the Arkansas River.

26. Interior Drainage. TIle slope of the land in the vicinity of

Granada is in an easterly direction.. TI1is generally naintains good drainage

of water a"lay from the existing levee. HOIVever, ponding areas are presently

formed by the existing levee at stations 57+00 and 97+00. TIlese }.;ill reOlain

after construction of the proposed leve'e and an additional ponding area "i 11

be formed at station 86+00. The drainage areas for these ponds are snaIl

and minimUr.l size outlets or lateral ditches liill alleviate the ponding.

12
