<br />4.0 Historic Floods <br /> <br />Floods in Eaton Draw, Sand Cr-eek, Lone Tree Creek, Owl Cl-eek, <br />Crow Creek and their tributaries are caused by runoff from <br />intense local rainfall or general rainstorms lasting several <br />days. Both types of floods can be augmented by melting snow. <br />The flood season extends from May 1 through August 31. <br /> <br />A large flood approaching the magnitude of a 100-year flood <br />occurr-ed on Eaton Draw on May 1, 1977. Other floods are reported <br />to have occurred at various parts of Eaton Draw in 1974, 1972, <br />1965, 1961, 1954, 1951, and 1935. <br /> <br />In July 1951, a stream gage was installed on Crow Creek near <br />Barnlsville, Colorado which collected data through 1957 for a <br />total of seven years of record. The total drainage area above <br />the gage was Ip24 square miles. The elevation of the gage was <br />1670 feet.
