<br /> <br />.. hcuard information (m.inim.u.m standards) for <br />building CtXUs. <br />On March 1, 1991, a Council ~Kick-Off Meeting" was <br />conducted at the Public Utilities Commission hearing <br />room in Denver. A summary of highlights and activi- <br />ties from subsequent semi-annual conferences follows. <br /> <br />Spring 1991 Conference. Grand Junction <br /> <br />On May 22, 1991, 43 Council members attended the <br />Spring Council meeting conducted at the Grand Junc- <br />tion Hilton. Ron Cattany, Deputy Director, Colorado <br />Department of Natural Resources, announced he had <br />been assigned new duties and would be unable to con. <br />tinue as Council Chairman. Ron Cattany was a <br />"founding father" of the Council along with Jack <br />Truby, Bob Kistner and others. Doralyn Genova, <br />Mesa County Commissioner, welcomed the group to <br />Grand Junction and Mesa County. Ms. Genova re- <br />called local landslide problems at the Lamplite Park <br />subdivision to stress the importance of hazard plan- <br />ning before major problems appear. <br /> <br />Fall 1991 Conference. Golden <br /> <br />With Council membership at 200, the Fall 1991 con. <br />ference was conducted on November 7-8, 1991, in <br />Golden, Colorado. The Adolph Coors Company and the <br /> <br /> <br />City of (;Qlden hosted the conference at the Adolph <br />Coors Company. Over 100 participant.s attended the <br />two-day meeting. On Thursday, November 7, commit- <br />tee and subcommittee meetings were held at the Co- <br />ors Engineering Center, including the first meeting of <br />the newly formed Dam Safety and Warning Subcom- <br />mittee (with 17 members in attendance). On Friday, <br />November 8, the committee reports were conducted in <br />the main brewery complex. <br /> <br />A highlight of the day was when Bill Coors related the <br /> <br />"There are some people around and <br />we've all known some of them - - - who <br />probably think that the human race is <br />the greatest natural hazard that ever oc- <br />curred on the planet". <br />Bill Coors, Adolp" Coors Company <br />November 8,1991 <br /> <br />story of how his grandfather built his brewery over a <br />hundred years ago in the Clear Creek floodplain.
