The following illustrates the extent of the flood <br />in that area. <br /> <br />A cloudburst centered below Gross Dam. 7.35 inches of rain <br />fell at Kneales in two hours. South Draw was a wall of <br />water. Five houses were swept away in the canyon. Water <br />undermined the dance hall; concessions, all bridges, severai <br />cabins, restaurants, cars, personal belongings disappeared in <br />the raging waters. Some residents took shelter in homes <br />outside the canyon on higher ground. The roar of the water <br />and moving boulders was a terrifying sound reverberating off <br />the walls of the canyon. I t was a loss from wh ich the resort <br />as it was never recovered. 195 <br /> <br />Discussions with long time Eldorado Springs <br />Cheesbro substantiated the destruction that <br />Eldorado Springs as a resort. 196 <br /> <br />resident <br />cau sed a <br /> <br />Mrs. Laura <br />decline in <br /> <br />Marshall <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />At Marshall, data was <br />the oCCUrre'lce of the <br />[refer to Chapter II). <br />1919, 1923, 1938, 1957 <br /> <br />scarce as well. This study, however, confirms <br />1894 flood at that area of South Boulder Creek <br />Other floods at Marshall include those of 1864, <br />and 1969.197 <br /> <br />Valmont <br /> <br />Valmont is located at the confluence of South Boulder Creek and <br />Boulder Creek, so it is probable that the town has been flooded more <br />often than the other South Boulder Creek Basin towns. <br /> <br />The 1894 flood has been identified as the flood of record at that site. <br />Valmont was Most likely severely impacted by floods during 1894, 1876, <br />1919, 1921, 1938, 1949, 1951, 1957, 1969 and 1973 due to its <br />location.198 <br /> <br />COAL CREEK BASlrJ <br /> <br />Coal Creek, also a tributary to Boulder Creek, flows through a basin <br />that includes the incorporated towns of Superior, Louisville, Lafayette <br />and Erie. Although data are scarce,199 floods on Coal Creek include <br />those which occurred during: <br /> <br /> 1876 - May 22 1938 - September 2 <br /> 1891 1949 - June 9 <br /> 1894 - May 31 - June 2 1957 - May 9 <br /> 1896 - June 1969 - May 7 <br />. 1921 - June 3 1972 - June <br />1935 - Mi\Y 26 <br />
